The Traditional Method
How to Prepare Kava
The classic blend, strain, cool, and serve method for Noble Kava root powder.
What You'll Need
5-6 tablespoons of kava root powder
1 to 1.5 litres of hot water
A splash of regular or coconut milk
A blender
A fine mesh strainer, muslin cloth, or nut milk bag
IceThe Preparation Method
- Combine: Add kava root powder to a blender with hot water and a splash of milk. The fat content is commonly used to help the extraction process.
- Blend: Blend thoroughly for a couple of minutes until the liquid becomes murky and earthy.
- Strain: Pour through the finest strainer you have. A nut milk bag or muslin cloth gives a cleaner result. Strain twice if needed.
- Cool: Add ice, dilute with cold water to taste, and serve in small shells or cups.
Tips for Best Results
- Use hot but not boiling water.
- Do not skip the milk; the fats aid the process noticeably.
- A nut milk bag tends to give the cleanest result by hand.
- Leftover kava powder can be blended a second time for a weaker batch.
