The Preparation Method

  1. Combine: Add kava root powder to a blender with hot water and a splash of milk. The fat content is commonly used to help the extraction process.
  2. Blend: Blend thoroughly for a couple of minutes until the liquid becomes murky and earthy.
  3. Strain: Pour through the finest strainer you have. A nut milk bag or muslin cloth gives a cleaner result. Strain twice if needed.
  4. Cool: Add ice, dilute with cold water to taste, and serve in small shells or cups.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use hot but not boiling water.
  • Do not skip the milk; the fats aid the process noticeably.
  • A nut milk bag tends to give the cleanest result by hand.
  • Leftover kava powder can be blended a second time for a weaker batch.
